BEIJING: Seven Chinese astronauts arrived at the Tianhe space station seven hours after a successful flight by the Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft today. This phase is being hailed as another major breakthrough in the construction of the Chinese space station.
At 9:22 a.m. today, China’s Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft with three astronauts was successfully launched from the “Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center”, according to reports. The spacecraft then entered orbit and took three astronauts into space.
The Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft is the highest-quality manned spacecraft ever built in China.
It consists of an orbital module, a return module and a propulsion module, while the ship has a total of 14 subsystems.
The current space mission is the fourth mission in the space station’s key technology verification phase and the first manned mission in the space station construction phase.
The three astronauts will stay on the space station for three months, during which time they will perform various tasks such as repairing facilities outside the station, changing parts and loading science applications.
