Making the right cable management for mini-ITX

I will make an assumption that Mini-ITX is a very capricious form factor in terms of the lack of physical space “under the hood” and the specifics of the selection of components, therefore, assemblies of compact computers are often based on the principle of “cramming everything”, and users have no time for optimization, let alone – aesthetics. By and large, even full-size computers are not always assembled neatly, but there are more possibilities, and here is a system unit the size of a shoebox.

From personal experience, I will say that such a platform is amenable to a certain modding, and it is also realistic to carefully assemble, this is what my story is about today.

Just in case, let me remind you of the current characteristics of the system:

So, due to the peculiarities of the layout of the case and components (in particular, dropsy and a 2.7-slot video card), I had to sweat a little for high-quality cabling inside the cramped space, since the custom wires of the power supply from -Cables were already on hand.

So what are the steps taken to properly wire components and wires?

The most problematic is the switching of power wires and hoses of the air-water supply, because they are the ones that occupy a fair share of the space, and their incorrect placement will: 1) interfere with the normal airflow inside the case, 2) spoil the interior, we are still going to make a beautiful cable management.

– The custom extension cable was assembled from heat-resistant silicone wires and stretched under the PCIe riser. Angle clamps in transparent insulation are soldered to the wires, ensuring reliable contact with the output socket.

– from the side of the power supply, the wires fit neatly to the power block and place the hoses of the water cooling system so that they do not interfere with the side walls of the case:

 

– an important moddin component of the case – aRGB prism – does not interfere with the free placement of cables and video cards.

– all the numerous wires and connectors for aRGB backlight were laid in the free space between the video card and the removable front cover (and considering that I have 3 backlight sources, this was an equally important task):

 

– from the side of the video card, everything is fine (the protruding wires of the power supply are packed behind the scenes and are not visible at all):

 

– the CBO hoses make a turn next to the RAM modules, go into the channel between the motherboard and the power supply, make a turn and split over the SF750 connectors and confidently enter the radiator.

– The EPS power cable of the processor is also masked and fixed under the cross member
