New York: US President Joe Biden says it would be premature to recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Responding to questions from reporters in Washington, he said the process of recognizing the Taliban government was still a long way off. Biden left without hearing questions about Afghans fleeing to the United States.

Russia, on the other hand, has called on the Taliban to form a comprehensive government that includes all minority groups.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia was ready to recognize the Taliban government and attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new rulers if the Afghan Taliban followed suit.
