How to remove, insert and adjust sliding fronts

To adjust the gaps between the doors and sidewalls or to remove the sound of friction between the fronts and the upper rail, it is not necessary to call the technician. Minor wardrobe malfunctions can be quickly eliminated on your own. When moving and rearranging furniture, you can also do without the services of specialists and independently remove the facades from the doorway, and then insert them back. How to do it correctly – in our blog.

Reasons for the appearance of gaps between doors and side pillars
Sliding facades constantly change their position during operation – this is natural. Minor offsets occur for several reasons:

the adjusting screw is unscrewed;
the shock-absorbing spring has weakened;
one of the stoppers has shifted;
there was a slight distortion of the case.

All these malfunctions do not affect the performance of the furniture , do not require specialist intervention and replacement of parts. Most often, it is enough to tighten a couple of screws to give the facade the correct position.

What tools are needed to extract and adjust facades
Installation, dismantling and adjustment of door leaves are performed using a screwdriver and a set of hex keys . Moreover, a screwdriver is needed not a cruciform, but a spatula. In extremely rare cases, you may need:

These tools are needed in cases where standard actions did not solve the problem, but the malfunction can still be fixed on your own.

How to remove facades from a doorway
Experts remove the doors from the wardrobe alone. But for a person without experience, it is better to take an assistant for safety net. Especially if there are mirrors and glass on the doors – the presence of a shockproof film does not guarantee that they will never break. To remove the facades, you need to proceed in the following sequence:

Using a screwdriver, lift one of the lower rollers up to slide the wheel out of the guide chute.

Pull the side of the door leaf towards you with the roller removed from the guide roller.
Repeat the procedure for the second side of the facade.

Grasp the lower part of the door leaf with your hands and, holding the rollers with your thumbs, slowly pull it towards you.
Watch the top rollers. When they come out of the top rail, the facade can be considered removed. Lean it gently against the wall.

To insert the facade, you must proceed in the reverse order. When dismantling and installing sliding doors, the order of removal / installation of panels is important:

when dismantling, first take out the near canvases;
when installing, the facades of the second row are inserted first into the doorway.
If you break the sequence of actions, nothing terrible will happen. However, you will have to spend time and effort to swap the facades.

How to adjust facades
Adjusting door leaves in most cases does not require removing them from the doorway, but there are exceptions. Typically, this procedure is required in two cases:

a gap has formed between the side wall and the door leaf;
the sound of rubbing metal surfaces is heard – this is due to the contact of the vertical profile handles and the upper guide.
To fix both problems, you need to change the position of the lower or upper rollers. Although the regulation has similar principles, the algorithms are slightly different.

Elimination of skewing of the facade
The gap between the side post and the facade is removed in the following sequence:

Get down on your knees and see what position the lower rollers are in. Most often, one of them needs to be raised a little, and the other – to be lowered. Sometimes adjusting the right or left roller is enough.
Raise the dust bumper. Below it is a hole through which you can get to the adjusting screw.

Insert the hex wrench into the top hole.

Make sure the front is in the correct position and lower the dust bumper in place.
When adjusting, the facade must not be too lowered or too raised above the rollers. If the gap is not removed, the problem is not in the position of the door leaf, but in the critical skew of the body. In this case, you need to check the position of the cabinet with a level and tighten the supports. Only after this procedure does it make sense to return to the adjustment of the facades.

Elimination of the gap formed due to the displaced stopper
The door leaves at the extreme point of movement are fixed by special elements – stoppers.
Depending on the modification, they are either glued to the inner side of the upper rail, or inserted into the lower profile. Problems mainly arise when using stoppers of the second type. To remove the gap, just follow a few simple steps:

Find out that the cause of the gap is the stopper displacement. With such malfunctions, the slot has the same width at the top and bottom of the opening.
Open the front, insert a screwdriver into the stopper and slide it to the side post at a distance equal to the width of the slot.

Close the front and make sure there is no gap. If a uniform gap remains, repeat the procedure.

The problem with the lower stoppers is that during operation their adhesion – the adhesion force – to the guide weakens. They begin to move more freely inside the gutter. The easiest way in this case is to change the lower stoppers to the upper ones.

Eliminate unpleasant sounds
Crevices have a negative effect on the aesthetics of furniture, but they do not act on the nerves as much as the sounds from rubbing metal surfaces. Because of them, you don’t want to open the closet again. However, grinding is not a sentence. It is also easy to eliminate it on your own.

Elimination of friction between the facade and the upper guide profile
If, while moving the facade, you can hear the rustling sound of friction of metal surfaces, you must first try to eliminate the problem with “little blood”. The reason for the appearance of an unpleasant sound may lie in the vertical crosspieces of the profile, which are slightly bent inward. This can happen both during the transportation of the sliding system and during the installation of the wardrobe.

To eliminate the sound of friction, you first have to determine which of the plates the door leaf is in contact with. After that, you need to bend the jumper quite a bit along the entire length of the guide. You can not apply force, otherwise you can ruin the profile. Usually an increase of 1 mm in the inner slit is sufficient to eliminate unpleasant sound.

If this method does not help, then the problem is not in the upper guide, but in the wrong position of the upper rollers – you need to work with them. The algorithm of actions in this case is as follows:

Find the misaligned roller. It is easy to do this – on which side of the door leaf the handle-profile rubs against the upper guide, adjustment is required there.
Lower the dust brush down a few centimeters.

Insert the key into the hole on the edge of the profile (there is one at the top).
Turn the wrench counterclockwise half a turn to loosen the clamping screw slightly.

Move the canvas 2-3 mm away from the panel against which the handle profile is rubbing.
While holding the blade in position, tighten the clamping screw.

Check system operation. If the sound does not disappear, repeat the procedure.
If, after re-adjustment, the profile still rubs against the upper guide, this means that the roller has time to return to its original position when tightening the screw. To remedy the situation, it is necessary to remove the facade and put it on the edge so that the problematic profile is on top. Then you need to loosen the screw again and give the roller the correct position. Only in this case, the roller must be held by hand until it is securely fixed.

How to remove the clicking sound in the top rail
Occasionally clicking sounds appear when opening facades. They are caused by the fact that one of the upper rollers clings to the protruding head of the self-tapping screw. This sound may appear some time after the installation of the cabinet for the following reasons:

installers screwed the self-tapping screw poorly;
the facade slightly changed its position, due to which the roller began to come into contact
with the screw head.
It is far from always possible to get rid of clicks by adjusting the facade. It happens that unpleasant sounds disappear, but gaps appear between the doors and sidewalls. You can regulate to the point of frenzy, but not achieve the desired result. Eliminating such a malfunction is very simple:

Find where the roller is in contact with the screw. To do this, you need to slowly open the facade and listen to what is happening in the upper rail. Clicks are heard from the area where the problem fasteners are located.

Unscrew the self-tapping screw with the protruding head.

Make a tapered indentation at the entry point of the self-tapping screw. When drilling, do not put too much pressure on the screwdriver – you can drill through a thin aluminum profile.

Screw in the self-tapping screw. Its bonnet will fit into the drilled recess, thereby eliminating clicking sounds.

When eliminating this malfunction, it is recommended to replace the self-tapping screw with hardware with a large diameter so that it fits snugly into the plate. For example, if the guide is screwed on with 3.5 × 16 mm self-tapping screws, you will need to take a 4 × 16 mm self-tapping screw. The indentation under his cap should also be larger.

As you can see, the main problems of sliding doors can be solved simply, quickly and independently. It is only important to arm yourself with the right tool and be attentive.
