Do not place the refrigerator near heating devices such as radiators and convectors, heat sources – oven, fireplace – or in a place where the sun’s rays are free. The refrigerator generates heat during operation, and if it gets hot where it stands, the compressor will have to work harder – the power consumption will increase.
For the same reason, a free flow of air along the condenser is needed – usually it is located at the back of the refrigerator. Installing the refrigerator close to the wall or, even worse, in a niche without an air flow will lead to overheating, increased power consumption, and possibly an early breakdown. It is also not recommended to put a refrigerator in an unheated room. For different models, the minimum temperature in the room where the refrigerator can be installed varies from +10 to +16 ° C – the exact value is also indicated in the instructions. At temperatures below the permitted temperature, the oil thickens, the movement of the refrigerant becomes difficult, ice freezes on the evaporator – all this can lead to breakdown of the refrigerator.
The next thing to look out for during installation is ergonomics. Try to keep the kitchen “working triangle” – stove-sink-refrigerator – as small as possible.
Most of the movement during cooking is between these points, and the closer they are to each other, the less time you spend on unproductive walking around the kitchen. But at the same time, we remind you that it is impossible to put the stove close to the refrigerator because of the heat generated by it.
It is not recommended to put the refrigerator in a corner – the door should open slightly more than 90 °, otherwise access to the contents of the refrigerator will be difficult. And when installed close to the wall on most models, the door will not open 90 °. If the door opens away from the wall, you will have to go around it all the time.
It happens that there is nowhere else to put the refrigerator except for the corner. Then choose among the models with a recessed handle and zero door gap – they allow you to open the door 90 °, even if the refrigerator is close to the wall.
After placing the refrigerator in the desired place, first level it. In this case, special devices are not needed – it is enough just to put a saucer of water on the refrigerator shelf. Next, you need to unscrew / tighten the bolts at the base of the legs until the refrigerator is level. On some models this can be done manually, on others you will need a key.
Sometimes it is recommended, after leveling the refrigerator, to lengthen both front legs a little – then the door will close under its own weight.
Rock the refrigerator from side to side – it should stand firmly. If it sways (some leg rises when swaying), lengthen this leg until it stops. Costs? Now you can connect.
It is better to place the socket for connection a little to the side of the refrigerator. If the socket is located at the back, it will make it difficult to disconnect the refrigerator from the mains. If the refrigerator was stored or transported at subzero temperatures, before connecting it, keep it in a dry, warm room for 8-12 hours so that all condensate from the refrigerator elements has time to evaporate.
Also, the refrigerator is harmed by frequent switching on and off. When the compressor is turned off, the pressure in the system is equalized for some time (up to 8 minutes – see the instructions). If you turn on the refrigerator before this time has elapsed, the compressor will start with increased load, or it will not be able to start at all. This can lead to its failure. Some modern models have protection against short-term shutdowns – but not all. If you experience short-term power outages in your network, install a stabilizer with a start-up delay function. and a delay of at least three minutes.
