The finished look of the kitchen is simply impossible without an efficient hood. However, its main task is to purify the air. How to install the hood so that it works correctly, and what is needed for this, we will consider in the material.
Preparing for installation
We will start preparing for self-installation of the hood by studying the instructions. It usually has a section called “Device Mounting” or something similar. There clearly, with diagrams and pictures, the procedure for installing the hood is described. In this section, the masters should be interested in:
Type and required number of fasteners.
A self-respecting manufacturer will definitely put a set of fasteners in the box.
If there were no fastening screws in the kit, then in the instructions you need to find recommendations about the diameter and length of the fasteners, and then buy them in addition.
2. Diameter of the ventilation opening, if the hood is to be connected to a fixed ventilation duct.
If the kitchen has stationary ventilation, it is highly advisable to connect the hood to it.

This solution has several advantages. First, odors will be removed from the room immediately. Secondly, there is no need to install a carbon filter. The capacity of the hood with a charcoal filter will be lower than that of a device connected to a ventilation duct. In addition, the user is forced to constantly buy consumables: the carbon filter is not serviced. It should be replaced with a new one every 3-4 months.
At the preparation stage, you need to roughly calculate the configuration and dimensions of the future duct, and then purchase the missing parts at the nearest hardware store.
There are not so many tools required to install the hood:
drill / screwdriver or hammer drill to drill holes in the wall for fasteners. The choice depends on the material of the wall on which the hood will be installed;
drill of the required diameter;
screwdriver for tightening the mounting screws. Instead of a screwdriver, an open-end wrench or socket may be needed if the installation is carried out using powerful screws with a head like a bolt;
bubble level for leveling the hood in a horizontal plane;
a hacksaw to cut the plastic elements of the ventilation duct. Hacksaws for metal have proven themselves well. They give a quick and even cut on the plastic;
tape measure or ruler – mark the drilling points;

We will show the installation process using the example of installing an inclined hood . Such models have impressive dimensions and weight, so the manufacturer recommends fixing them to the wall with four screws. Screws 6 mm x 50 mm were used as fastening elements, having a “10” head.
Lighter hoods are mounted using wall brackets, usually included in the delivery.
We will start work on installing the hood by determining the place for the fasteners. There are general guidelines for the installation height above the hob .
For electric stoves, the recommended distance is 60 cm, for gas stoves – 75 cm.

Before proceeding with the calculations and marking, it is recommended to draw a line on the wall that coincides with the center line of the hob. Only in this case, the hood is guaranteed to be installed exactly above the stove, since their center lines coincide.
All calculations for the location of the centers of the holes must be carried out from the centerline.
Some manufacturers include an installation template in the documentation for their device. The user will need a little: position the template at the desired height and mark the centers of future holes.
If the template was not found in the instructions, then you will have to act “in the old fashioned way”, scrupulously measuring and calculating the places for future holes.
The marking process is perhaps the most critical stage. The rule “measure seven times, cut once”, or rather “drilled”, is more appropriate here than ever.
After the marking is applied, we drill the holes.
and screw the fasteners into the wall.
The finished mounting system looks like this.
After tightening the screws, it is useful to check the accuracy with a bubble level and correct it if necessary.
The hood is suspended from the installed screws.
Check the horizon level again.
After that, we finally tighten the screws, pressing the hood tightly against the wall. The installation process is now almost complete. You can connect the device to the electrical network and check its performance in various modes.
The hood is a low-power consumer of energy, therefore, there are no special requirements for the electric line. If the hood is not supposed to be connected to the ventilation duct, then at the end of the work we install the decorative casing of the ventilation duct and consider the work completed.

Then we connect it to the hood and stationary ventilation.
In order not to reduce the extraction performance, the diameter of the air duct should not be less than the diameter of the outlet of the device.
It is recommended to secure the metal duct securely with a clamp.
After installing the air duct on the hood body, we install a decorative casing. This is the final stage of the hood installation work. Immediately after that, it can be fully exploited.
Features of the installation of built-in and island appliances
As for built-in models, they are installed in special niches in kitchen furniture. Such hoods are fastened with self-tapping screws screwed directly into the furniture material.

The logic of mounting an island hood is similar to the fastening of a conventional hood, which we wrote about just above. The only significant difference is that the device is not mounted on the wall, but on the ceiling.
