How to connect wireless headphones or speaker to PC / laptop

Connecting Bluetooth headphones to a computer is not a difficult task, especially if you are using the latest version of Windows 10, which installs all the necessary drivers by itself. However, in practice, headphones often refuse to connect so easily. Within the framework of this manual, standard methods, possible errors and ways of correcting them will be considered in order to connect any audio equipment using a Bluetooth connection to a PC or laptop. The test subjects will be JBL 450BT headphones, AirPods and a Flip 4 speaker.

Equipment
Most laptops have a built-in Bluetooth adapter, but they are not included as standard with PCs. While the owners of personal computers are leafing through the catalog in search of a suitable adapter model, owners of laptops can turn on the Bluetooth connection, if they have not already done so.

Setting up your laptop

Step 1: click to activate the notification bar. If the “Bluetooth” tile is highlighted in blue – it is activated, if not – click on it once. Then call the properties of the object with the right mouse button. If you have, for example, Windows 7, and there is no tile or icon in the specified location, go through the “Start” menu in the “Control Panel”, then select the “Devices” tab.

Step 2: in the new window, select your device from the list and click “Connect”. The headphones must be turned on during connection.

If there are no headphones in the list: under the line “Your computer is searching for devices” there is a tab “Other parameters” – click on it to open a new window. Select “Allow devices to find this computer.” Search for devices again.

Setting up a PC and laptop
If you have an older laptop, chances are that there is no built-in adapter, so the instructions for your laptop and desktop are identical. Insert the Bluetooth adapter into the USB port and follow the further instructions.

Call the notification panel, select the “All programs” tile from the menu.

Go to the Devices tab and click Add Bluetooth.

In a magical world where everything always happens on the first try, you can connect headphones or a headset as described above. In reality, it happens like this:

The way out of the situation can be simple or difficult.

Simple: press “Win + X”, bring up the task manager.

Find your “blue tooth”, right-click on the context menu and click “Turn on device”.

After connecting, don’t forget to update your drivers.

What to do if all else fails
The CSR8510 A10 adapter is used for connection. There was no CD with drivers in the kit when purchasing, the manufacturer is unknown. Windows stubbornly does not see the CSR8510 A10. Manual and automatic updates don’t help.

Specialized software (Driver Booster, DriverHub or DriverPack Solution) is also useless. The operating system sees the physical device but does not interact with it. If you are faced with such a problem, there is only one way out – BlueSoleil.

There are other programs, but they are less reliable: the connection is broken more often, there is a high probability that the device will not be found. Meanwhile, over 10 years of use by the author, the BlueSoleil program has never failed or failed.

BlueSoleil installs its drivers, so that any adapters work and all Bluetooth devices are connected, including phones, speakers, headsets. The program can be downloaded from the official website.

Connecting wireless headphones with BlueSoleil
Step 1: download, install and run the program. The software is paid, in free mode you can use it for 3 minutes – to check the quality of the connection.

Step 2: right-click on the golden ball, select “Search for devices” from the menu, or simply press “F5” while in the active window of the program. Use the slider to search for available devices.

Step 3: select your device, double-click on its icon with the left mouse button or once with the right one to select the “Search for functions” item in the context menu.

Step 4: When the functions are found, click on “Play Music”.

Step 5: you can enable autorun separately for each device, so that when you turn on the headphones themselves connect to the computer.

When the device is connected to a smartphone and a PC at the same time, the audio will be streamed from the computer. If at this time a call is heard, the video player will pause, the headphones will automatically switch to the phone. It is more difficult with audio players: some of them will continue to play music, but it will not be played in the headphones. At the end of the call, the headphones will reconnect to the computer and play sound.

Step 6: To disconnect the device from BlueSoleil, right-click on it, select “Disconnect Enhanced Bluetooth Sound”.

Connecting AirPods to Windows
Using the program described above, AirPods connect to computers, set-top boxes, and TVs just like any other device.

Let’s consider another way to connect via BlueSoleil.

Step 1: right-click on the Bluetooth connection icon and select “functions” from the menu

Step 2: Click on the plus sign to add AirPods.

Step 3: while searching for a device, you must press the button on the headphone box for 3 seconds. We leave the lid open to see the indicator inside the case.

Further actions are similar to those already described: in the device menu, select “Listen to music”. If you want to use AirPods as a headset, select “Connect a Voice Gateway” or just click on the icon.

You can do without the program if the Bluetooth adapter is detected by the system.

Connect AirPods to your Windows 10 laptop
Step 1: open the context menu of the “blue tooth” by clicking, select “Add device” or go through “Start”> “Control Panel”> “Devices” and click “+”.

Step 2: hold down the button on the charger for 3 seconds, watch the indicator inside – it should “wink” in white.

Every time the headphones are in the case, an automatic disconnect will occur. Once the box is opened, they will automatically pair with the device. You can turn off the device forcibly using the button in the same tab.

If the operating system Windows 7 is installed, you will have to arrange a dance with the drivers through the task manager: first remove them, then try to install them automatically again. But it is not a fact that it will help: it works for some, but not for others.

Perhaps it depends on the module, the version of the operating system, the date of the driver database update – there are too many factors to make an unambiguous conclusion. It’s easier to install assistive software or upgrade to Windows 10.

If you are using an outdated operating system or adapters from unknown manufacturers, connecting wireless headphones will not be an easy task. You may need to update your drivers, but that might not work either. An easy and fast connection will be provided by the current version of the operating system, a proprietary Bluetooth adapter and specialized programs. In this case, there should be no problems.
