At first glance, there is no difficulty in installing an electric oven. But in fact, there are many pitfalls. If you make an incorrect installation and connection of the oven to the electrical network, then the device may fail, and in the worst case, a fire will occur. Read the article on common mistakes and never make them.
Incorrect electrical connection
Ovens are high power consumption appliances. Electricity consumption for most household models at the peak reaches 3600 watts. Therefore, the requirements for connecting the oven to the electrical network are more stringent.

Under no circumstances should extension cords be used for connection. The cable core diameter is usually too small and not suitable for continuous use. In addition, the number of connection points increases. Ultimately, this can lead to overheating, short circuits and even fire.
Tees are also strictly prohibited. In this case, the contact will not be the best. Because of this, the resistance will be increased, and, accordingly, heating will increase. Moreover, an ordinary household socket with a grounding contact (CEE 7/4 “Schuko”) is designed for a maximum current of 16 A. In accordance with GOST 29322-2014, the mains voltage should be 230 V ± 10% at a frequency of 50 ± 0.2 Hz. Then the maximum power of the devices for the outlet:
Based on this, no other equipment can be connected to the same outlet at the same time, since the oven will take over all the available power. The tee will obviously only hurt.

If you are planning to connect a new oven, then the best option would be to arrange a separate outlet or terminal block for it . Moreover, the line for it should be supplied with a separate continuous cable directly from the electrical panel, while installing a separate automatic or differential switch . No connections – no problem.
Don’t forget about protective grounding. It protects a person from electric shock if the oven insulation is damaged and a phase appears on the metal case. If for some reason there is no grounding in your apartment, then be sure to contact the management company before connecting the oven.
Remember that when installing the line, you must use the VVGng-LS cable. It is designed for stationary wiring, does not spread and does not support combustion when laid in a group, has a reduced smoke and gas emission. Its service life under normal operation is at least 30 years.
In contrast to him, sometimes they advise the PVA cable, motivating by the fact that it is flexible and easier to lay. But its service life is only 6-10 years. It is great for connecting equipment to an outlet, but it is better not to use it as a fixed line.
Which circuit breaker and cable diameter should I choose?
The choice of the diameter of the cable and the machine for its protection often causes heated debate. But it’s easy to make the right choice if you understand a little about electrical engineering.
A 3 x 1.5 mm 2 cable will definitely not work. It can only handle a maximum load of 3300 watts. It cannot be used to connect a 3600 W oven . Otherwise, the cable will overheat and its insulation will deteriorate.

The minimum cable diameter for connecting the oven is 3 x 2.5 mm 2 . The rating of the circuit breaker or differential switch should be selected according to the weakest section in the network. For a separate line, this is an electrical outlet. It is designed for a current of 16 A, so the machine must be selected for the same rating.
Many ovens are equipped with an F “Schuko” plug directly from the factory. In this case, connection problems are guaranteed not to arise.
We can definitely say that it is always better to play it safe a little. Therefore, it is preferable to use a cable with a diameter of 3 x 4 mm 2 , taking into account the possible underestimation of the characteristics by the manufacturer and a small margin of power . To protect it, use a 20 A circuit breaker or differential switch.
But in this case, an ordinary household outlet designed for 16 A cannot be installed. Use a dedicated power outlet and plug, for example from Legrand. Or an intermediate carbolite terminal block.
Never connect the line directly to the oven! The VVGng-LS cable is mono-core and does not bend well. During installation, it will easily break the fastening of the oven block.
But in order to make the correct connection, you just need a PVA cable of the same diameter as the line itself – 3 x 4 mm 2 . Its conductors are stranded and allow easy installation. On one side it connects to the terminal block or to the power plug, and on the other side it connects to the oven block. As a rule, it is located behind a special hatch on the back wall.
If the cable is already installed from the factory, then disconnect it first.
Be careful not to confuse the wiring diagram. White wire – phase (L), blue – neutral (N), yellow-green – protective earth (PE). The same connection must be on both the intermediate block and the electrical panel.
At the end, the cable must be fixed with a special fastener. It will hold it securely in place, even with strong jerks.
Do not provide gaps
When designing a kitchen, it is important to first decide on the model of the oven . Based on its characteristics, it will be possible to accurately calculate the dimensions of the niche for embedding and maintain the same gaps around the perimeter of the oven front panel. Remember that, as a general rule, the gap should be at least 5 mm.
Pay particular attention to the gap between the oven door and the lower front. The requirements for it are very different for different models – from 3 to 10 mm. This is the only way the door can easily open and close without catching anything.
Do not provide ventilation
The oven generates a lot of heat during its operation. To avoid overheating, it is necessary to provide for proper heat dissipation in advance.
In no case should the walls of the oven be allowed to come into contact with the surfaces of the box of the kitchen set. A ventilation gap of 5-10 mm must be provided. Otherwise, overheating is possible.
The shelf on which the oven is located should not be “blank”. It is necessary to retreat 30-50 mm from the wall, or provide a specially provided opening for ventilation. So the air will flow unhindered and cool the walls.
In addition, it is easy to pass an electrical cable through this hole for connection.
Please note that the cable must never touch the walls of the oven! Hide it carefully under the kitchen unit.
If a blind base is used in the kitchen, then it is best to embed a special ventilation grill for the flow of cold air.
It is easy to match it to any style of kitchen, as they come in different sizes and shades of color.
Place the oven next to flammable objects and the refrigerator
Never place the oven next to curtains and tulle. The oven walls sometimes become very hot, especially when using the pyrolytic cleaning mode (if available). The fabric can easily deteriorate and even catch fire.
For the same reason, do not leave flammable objects such as plastic baskets and containers near the oven while it is running .
The likelihood that they will catch fire, of course, is low, but from the high temperature they can irrevocably deteriorate.
You should not build the oven into a kitchen set, the walls of which will not withstand prolonged heating to a temperature of 90 ° C – be sure to check this point with the manufacturer. If the material is not suitable, then under the influence of heat, the glue will lose its properties, and the laminated surface or film will deform. If the facades are painted, bubbles may appear on the paint.

Do not place an oven with very hot walls next to the refrigerator. Excessive heat will force its compressor to work in a boosted mode. Ultimately, electricity consumption will increase dramatically. And it also negatively affects the service life of the refrigerator and leads to its premature failure.
Place the oven under the hob and do not foresee that liquid escaping from the top can fill the oven.
When installing the hob above the oven, you need to take care of reliable waterproofing. Otherwise, liquid escaping from the hotplate will most likely flow down through the gap between the hob and the worktop. And then through the ventilation holes of the oven it will fall on the electrical board, which ultimately will lead to breakdown. In addition, an unpleasant odor will develop over time.
Install the oven only under the hob
When designing a kitchen set, the classic layout of household appliances is often used. In this case, the oven is installed under the hob . But if they are independent of each other, have their own controls and are connected with separate cables, this is not at all necessary.
You can safely place the oven, for example, in a pencil case or a column at chest level. This makes it much easier to control the cooking process – you don’t have to bend over all the time. It is very convenient to place and take out dishes. In addition, small children will not open and turn on the oven on their own.
Install the oven skewed
When installing the oven, you should maintain strict horizontal and vertical planes. An ordinary building level is suitable for this .
Better yet, use a laser level.
It will allow correct installation with high precision. If there are deviations from the planes in ovens with telescopic guides, the baking sheet most often slides out on its own when the door is opened.
In addition, excessive tilting can cause excess cooking fat to spill over the side of the pan or spill out of the roasting sleeve.
If you doubt whether you can install the oven on your own and without errors, then it is better to trust qualified specialists. The safety of you and your family depends on it. And to find the best oven model, watch our video.
