Election Commission decides to seek evidence on Azam Swati’s money laundering allegations

Islam Abad: Election Commission (EC) has decided to seek evidence on allegations of money laundering by Railway Minister Azam Swati.

According to Express News, a meeting of the Election Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in which members of the Election Commission and other officials participated. During the meeting, a briefing was given on the developments in the Presidency and Standing Committee meetings.
Sources said that the ECP officials expressed anger over the allegations made by the federal ministers and said that the ECP was a constitutional body and the allegations against it were baseless and unacceptable. The Election Commission has decided to issue notices on the statements of Federal Ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Azam Swati. The Election Commission has sought a record of the statements of the Federal Ministers from PEMRA. ۔
It may be recalled that on September 10, the Railway Minister had lashed out at the Election Commission over the issue of electronic voting machine at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. He had said that the Election Commission was holding on to money. The Election Commission is the cause of destroying the democracy of the country. You go to hell, set fire to such institutions.

Later, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that it seems that the Election Commission has become the headquarters of the opposition. If the Chief Election Commissioner has to do politics, he should resign and contest the elections. The Chief Election Commissioner has become the mouthpiece of the opposition. Cabinet rejects summary of MPs’ pay hike

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has rejected the summary of increase in salaries of MPs.

According to Express News, a meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in which a 14-point agenda was considered.

During the meeting, a report was presented on the remuneration of chairmen and members of 20 regulatory authorities, legislation for a new Ruwit Hilal Committee, reduction of additional customs duties on heavy commercial vehicles, abolition of panel surcharge, cyber attack on FBR data. In this context, the issue of implementation of operational emergency and approval of reconstitution of the Board of Directors of Diamer Bhasha Development Company also came under consideration.
Sources said that the federal cabinet has rejected the summary of increase in salaries of MPs.

It may be recalled that the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs had sent a summary of the increase in the salaries of the MPs to the Cabinet for approval, under which the increase in the salaries of the MPs was to be made in the form of ad hoc relief allowance. Similarly, the salaries of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly were also to be increased.
