A split system with one indoor unit can cool well two adjacent rooms that are not connected to each other by a door or arched opening. There is a simple and effective way that will eliminate the need to install another air conditioner or a model with two indoor units. To implement it, it is not necessary to invite masters, all the work can be done independently.
Lack of installation of the indoor unit in the corridor
About 10-15 years ago, a method was popular when the indoor unit was installed in the corridor of an apartment or house. It was believed that in this way it was possible to cool the rooms as efficiently as possible. Indeed, in most cases, they all communicate directly with the corridor. However, in practice, the logic of such actions turned out to be erroneous. The air conditioner cools the corridor most of all, in which no one spends much time, and in the rooms the temperature drops by only 2-3 ° C.
The low air exchange rate is not the only drawback with this method of installing the indoor unit. The second disadvantage is the insufficiently efficient operation of the air conditioner. With this arrangement of the indoor unit, the air in the corridor must be cooled as much as possible in order to create a comfortable temperature in other rooms. Continuous operation in this mode leads to premature wear of the compressor, which is not designed for such loads.

The third drawback is the length of communications. The optimal length of the track of the sleep systems is from 3 to 7.5 meters. Although the manufacturers of air conditioners still indicate the maximum length of communications, which can be about 20 meters, you should not be guided by these data. The length of the freon line to the corridor is rarely less than 10 meters. Such a length of communications can negatively affect the operation of the air conditioner. Indeed, with an increase in the length of the pipeline, the pressure in it drops, which also reduces the efficiency of the air conditioner.
You also need to take into account the aesthetic component. Communications stretched through half of the house or apartment do not add attractiveness to the interior. Moreover, chipping walls, even with the use of special equipment, can become a problem. After all, the freon track in many places can intersect with wires. After it is carried out, you need to re-glue the wallpaper or re-paint the walls.
Cons of cooling through the hallway
If the air flow from the indoor unit is let through the corridor, it will take much more time and energy to cool the adjacent room. Reducing the temperature in this way is quite problematic. After all, the air will additionally cool the corridor and almost will not get into the second room. This method has low energy efficiency.
Ordinary room fans can be used to speed up the process. They will increase the rate of air exchange between rooms. However, this method also has disadvantages:
fans stand in passages and interfere with moving around the apartment;
part of the energy is spent on cooling the corridor;
the next room heats up quickly after turning off the fans.
In addition, this method is not suitable in cases where one of the rooms needs to be closed. That is, in any of the situations, you will have to endure inconvenience.
Simple and efficient ventilation system for cooling the adjacent room
The cooling method is extremely simple – you need to build an exhaust fan into the wall, and close the outlet in the next room with a grate. This method will help distribute the cold air between the two rooms. Maximum efficiency is achieved when air is supplied from larger rooms to smaller rooms. When choosing a place for installing the indoor unit, it is desirable to be flexible and be guided by the individual characteristics of the operation of the air conditioner.
The fan must be installed at the bottom of the wall. This will help improve the efficiency of your homemade system. After all, cold air is heavier than warm air and sinks to the floor. This means that it is necessary to capture it below. However, it will be necessary to take into account that the air that has got into the next room in this way will remain on the floor. That is, the cooling effect will be incomplete.
To increase the cooling rate of the adjacent room, the pumped air must be raised to the ceiling. When leaving the ventilation system, it will mix evenly with warm air and a comfortable temperature will be established in the room faster.
However, this project can be implemented without compromising aesthetics only in rooms whose walls are sheathed with plasterboard. Moreover, it is necessary to install a ventilation system at the stage of repair.

This method is based on the principle of operation of ducted air conditioners, which distribute cooled air in several rooms from a single source of cold. Since channels are not needed to ensure full air exchange between adjacent rooms, you can get by with an ordinary fan and a decorative grill.
When choosing a fan model, it is important not to be mistaken with performance. It should be at least 150 m³ / h, since a smaller volume of pumped air will not be able to lower the temperature in the next room.
The second important criterion is quiet operation. Low-quality fans hum a lot during operation and cause discomfort. Today, models with plastic bushings and bearings are on sale. It is recommended to give preference to bearing fans as they run much quieter.
When searching, it is important to pay attention to the diameter of the inlet with which the ce is in direct proportion to this parameter. Fans Ø100 mm are the weakest to pump air, therefore, preference should be given to models with large dimensions.
What tool is needed to install the fan
Professionals use dust extraction rock drills to drill walls. This tool is recommended for drilling thick brick and concrete walls. It is extremely rare to find it at home craftsmen. However, for thin interior walls, a standard set of tools is perfect:
Also, when drilling walls, it is recommended to use a regular household vacuum cleaner . This is especially true when work needs to be done in a renovated and furnished room.

Ventilation system installation
Before installation, make sure that the wiring will not be damaged when drilling the hole for the fan. To do this, you need to check the walls with a special detector. If this device is not available, you must use the electrical wiring diagram. The installation procedure itself consists of 5 stages:
Mark the wall where you are drilling. The distance between the floor and the center of the outlet is usually 700 mm.
Drill the wall after checking the wiring with the detector. When drilling with a hammer drill without a dust collector, it is advisable to use a household vacuum cleaner.
Install the fan – the way it is installed depends on the material of the walls. Partitions made of brick and concrete must first be drilled for dowels. The fan can be immediately screwed to the plaster wall with self-tapping screws 3.5×35 mm.
Secure the grill to the back of the wall. The principle of operation at this stage is the same as when installing the fan. Make sure that the centers of the holes for fixing the grille and the fan do not coincide on opposite sides of the walls (this is important when using fasteners with dowels).
Plug in the fan and test it. It should run silently. If there is a rustling or vibration, you must first check the reliability of the fastening. In most cases, to eliminate noise, it is enough to tighten the screws on the fan or grill itself. In the case of installing budget models, the reason for the appearance of extraneous sounds is poor build quality.
If the wall thickness significantly exceeds the installation depth of the fan, dust may appear in the adjacent room during operation. It is blown out by a stream of air. Over time, it should disappear, but it is enough to process the edges of the hole before installing the fan. This can be done with wall sealants or an inner liner.
Ventilation system operation
The proposed design for air exchange eases suffering during heat. It is more efficient than a fan, but such a system cannot replace an air conditioner. In order not to overload the fan and not waste energy, it is recommended to wait for the maximum air cooling in the room with the indoor unit of the air conditioner. Then you can turn on the fan.
