Assembling a computer for a graphic designer for 110,000 rubles (March 2020)

Assembling a computer for a designer requires a specific approach to the selection of components and a monitor. At a minimum, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the work of specialized software on different hardware. We have already published a budget office assembly , but it is of little use for the work of a designer. Therefore, let’s try to assemble a computer for design, including a monitor, and keep within 110 thousand rubles.

Our configuration is selected for optimal work in the software profile for the designer: Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, etc.

Processor: Intel Core i5-9600KF
Graphics software, in particular Adobe Photoshop, is sensitive to the number of physical cores and frequency, and better optimization with the Intel platform makes the Core i5-9600KF processor optimal for our budget. Six cores and a base frequency of 3.70 GHz is what you need.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z390 UD
Our processor has an unlocked multiplier, so the logical solution would be to use a motherboard with a chipset that supports overclocking. Let’s stop our choice on Z390 UD from GIGABYTE with a powerful power supply scheme that will pull out both a good overclock and an upgrade to an older processor.

The choice of case for the system unit is largely a matter of taste. The main condition is the possibility of organizing effective air exchange. For our configuration, we will choose a “blown” Deepcool MATREXX 55 MESH with the ability to install both 120mm and 140mm fans.

The monitor is, perhaps, the main working tool of the designer and it is not worth saving on it. One of the key characteristics in this case is the color gamut. We tried and found a 31.5 ”AOC U3277PWQU built on the basis of an MVA matrix with 99.9% sRGB color gamut, and 87.6% Adobe RGB and 4K resolution (3840 * 2160).

In fairness, it should be noted that this is not a professional monitor, but a model with an extended color gamut (1.07 billion colors versus the standard 16.7 million). Professional solutions will cost many times more, which will lead to a significant excess of our budget.

The current configuration will easily cope with any tasks that a graphic designer may have. We have tried to select components in such a way that there are no optimization problems with graphics software, and the performance of a working computer does not become a stumbling block during a creative workflow.

I want it cheaper!
If you want to save money in the first place, you can abandon the hard drive. Just don’t forget about backups. Those who want to save even more can be offered to replace the motherboard by choosing something simpler on the H370 chipset . At the same time, it is worth remembering that you can forget about overclocking. Well, if so, then you can also replace the processor with a Core i5-9400F , although losing 700 MHz of the base frequency compared to the Core i5-9600KF. And such a processor needs more modest cooling, for example, Deepcool Gammaxx 300 .

I want an upgrade!
It would be advisable to increase the amount of RAM by adding two more 8 GB sticks – the motherboard allows this. You can also replace the processor with a more powerful Core i7-9700KF or, if the budget allows, with Core i9-9900KS . If necessary, you can also replace the video card, taking, for example, GTX 2070 Super .
