Air chief resigns after female officer commits suicide in South


A junior female Air Force officer in South Korea has committed suicide after being abused by a senior, prompting public pressure to force the air chief to resign.According to the International News Agency, South Korea’s Air Chief of Staff General Lee Seung-yong has resigned from his post. South Korean President Moon Ji-un has accepted the resignation of the Air Chief.The air chief’s resignation came a day after the defense ministry revealed in an inquiry report that a female officer had been abused by a senior officer in a car while returning from dinner in March.

On the other hand, the parents of the female officer had filed a petition alleging that their daughter had committed suicide after being sexually abused by a senior officer. Protests erupted across the country in favor of the female officer over the petition.

Earlier in 2017, a senior South Korean naval officer raped a female Navy officer, who committed suicide, and the senior officer was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while in 2013 he attempted to rape. One supervisor was sentenced to two years in prison.
